South Texas College and McAllen Public Library are hosting a poetry contest for ages 11-18. Write an original poem about family and what your own interpretation of family is to you. We will be announcing the winners of the contest at the Teen Poetry Contest Ceremony on Saturday, April 26th at the McAllen Public Library.
Attend our Poetry 101 Workshop on Tues, March 11th at 6PM to develop your writing with English professors from South Texas College. Submit your original poem to the Teen Poetry Contest before Friday, March 14th.

Guidelines:
The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 14th at 5:00PM.
Submissions will be judged in two separate age categories:
11-13 years and 14-18 years.
Poems can be submitted in English or Spanish.
Late entries will not be considered.
Submissions may be turned in at the Main Library Teen Department.
An individual may submit only 1 entry.
Entries must be the contestant's original work. Use of Artificial Intelligence, copyrighted materials, or plagiarism will not be accepted.
If submitting hand-written, writing must be legible.
Please refrain from vulgar or inappropriate language.
Poetry forms such as Blackout poems, Found poetry, and other informal styles are acceptable. Rhyming is not required.
Poems should not exceed 20 lines.
Eligibility:
Contestants must be between the ages 11 and 18 years old.
Contestants must reside in Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy, or Cameron Counties.
All entries must address the theme of “Family”.
